How to become a famous poet
I spend lots of spare time writing
Mostly doggerel or worse
Friends sometimes try to flatter me
And call it poetry or verse
But the public doesn’t know me
To them I don’t exist
I’m ignored by all the publishers
I can’t get on their list
I’ve started pondering this fact
Now I know the reason why
Catch 22 this scene is called
How ever how hard I try
If the public’s never heard of me
They won’t go to buy my poems
The publishers all know this fact
And just tell me to go home
The old time poets who are dead
Sell hundreds of their books
But moderns are very hard to find
So few people even look
So it’s down to all us poets
To demand each others stuff
And hope that in the end
This call for books might be enough
In the meantime I’m frustrated
Since publishers wont try
And if no-one wants to read my poems
I’ll just curl up and die
Starved in a lonely garret
Like the old timers used to do
Then my work will be discovered
And I’ll be famous too
----OOOO----
