THE WOODSMAN AND THE MEDICINE WOMAN

My lady, she said to me,
in a whisper light as a wraith's sigh,
"follow me my love," she took my hand,
she looked about, her cheeks pale and white,
"come let us follow the moon light."
Through the shelter of the trees,
walking in companionable silence,
the scent of the wood and leaves flutter overhead.
"Shall we venture together?" She said,
"under the stars that haven't been named."
As we approached the great Oak Tree,
"come feel the baby in side me." She said.
I waited expectantly, but felt nothing,
then suddenly a movement, barely a ripple,
I felt it move, the feeling was blissfull.
We sat beneath the great Oak Tree,
told the moon and the stars of our baby,
five shooting stars we saw that night,
they plunged like rays across the sky,
it was such an aesthetic sight.
We made a wish upon each star saying,
"earth, air, fire and water,
give to us a healthy daughter,
but if this cannot be done,
give to us a healthy son."
As we rose from the ground,
from out of the trees a rustling sound,
"What is it?" She turned and said to me,
"I don't know," I cannot see.
"Come she said, quick follow me."
We turned and started to walk fast,
watching for anything that should pass,
each twig that cracked, we wondered what was that?
Suddenly she stopped, she was stunned,
from out of darkness came two shots from a gun.
I felt something hit me hard in the chest,
falling back, I cried out for Celest,
there was no reply, my head started spinning,
a black figure stood over us,
his face only revealing.
"Witch, Warlock hated by some,
die in hell you abominable one,"
these words I didn't understand,
I just wanted Celest and I to be as one,
with our baby, our daughter or our son.
"She is my lady, her name is Celest,
she was pregnant with child,
what is it about her you detest?"
"She cast spells, she is crazy,
I think I've saved your baby."
I was mad beyond words, at what he had said,
she was good and kind, but now she was dead.
I tried to get up, but couldn't move anyway,
to scream and shout was all I could convey,
but very soon even the shouting was taken away.
The rains of Autumn, sent a chill to the air,
her memory lingers while I lay there.
The Oak Tree then speaks to me,
"I am wood I don't hear,
I do not see, so just let me be."
He thought about venturing under the stars,
that hadn't been named,
but soon the light went out,
their bodies entwined,
as they were left in that wood, so unkind.
