Visions of a Night-Time God
Talon over talon towards the backlit moon-clouds,
Eyes panning across a cityscape deserted by afterglow,
The epileptic life-lights of the city
Are shards of zero glass on my face.
I watch urban dreams projected over the neurons of the nocturnal.
Diesel soot, petrol smog, cellular messages, echoes from the souls of buildings,
Arc out across the night-line,
Exuberantly evil, merging into a single living entity,
A paradigm of eternal moonlight,
Dancing to the city’s heartbeat of technofire.
The shouts of the street-savages are a laser-burn on my eyes
As they set out to hunt on the concrete catwalks,
Parading their robes of death, their hoods of terror,
Dissecting their prey with beams of steel,
Cold light glinting in their diamond-encrusted skulls.
The city speaks to me, and I listen
On the roof of the citadel, a god for the night,
Drinking in the bitter-sweet rain of kerosene
From the titanium leviathans overhead,
All nightmares of the wilderness erased.
