A Cautionary Tail
A rodent's tail ain't half as nice,
All coiled and snake-like. Rats and mice
Have had it when it comes to tails
'Cos when it does, puss seldom fails
To take the cake, and even dogs
And monkeys, lizards, roos and hogs,
Llamas and lemurs, they're no great shakes,
Just runners-up in the great tail stakes.
. . . . . . . . . . . .
But just to sound a note of warning,
You may find kitty gone one morning.
The mystery's not so hard to unravel -
It's simply a case of have tail, will travel!
Paws For Thought
Such dainty paws, such perfect paws
Are cause for delectation,
Manicured and many-clawed,
Four paws for contemplation:
Such stealthy paws that open doors
And pad through hidden places;
Such canny claws, found on all fours,
Scratch hands and undo laces;
Such clever paws that make no chores
Of stalking unwary prey;
Such wicked claws whose use ensures
Death the lingering way.
A Whisper Of Whisker
A whisper of whisker so neat and complete
Each lithesome antenna attuned to the street
Bristles that thrill to the slightest breeze
Sometimes to convulse in a feline sneeze
Nature's own radar a-probing the night
While two baleful searchlights put vermin to flight
Consider the whiskers that tickle your hand
Spell death and destruction to the rodent clan
A whole cataclysm in each tiny strand
