Hope on a cold day

'At first there is a sort of negative condition,
as if some tie were loosened, and then the
absolute freedom quickly follows, when, however
the freedom ceases the change-back or relapse,
preceded only by a spell of warning silence.'
-Dracula
The sun shone so brightly.
The streaks of sunlight;
like a white flag of surrender
across the horizon.
The fog was thick
the trees shivered,
caped with dazzling frost.
Glimmering white,
and bright- warning me.
The sky, unnerved,
speed up the clouds;
sent them tumbling towards us,
desperate to conceal.
There were moments
that morning,
I believed in change.
Captivated by the
beauty around me.
But the relapse of
the sun, fading into grey;
made me aware.
Everything is fixed
by some transient string-
held in the air,
balanced by our care.
And my hands alone...
are not enough
