Journey of Imagination

My soul has departed its confines
And frolics in the fields along the lanes.
Fleet footed, I run amongst the sheep
Leaping hedgerows,
Dodging among the trees on the hillside.
Open armed I dance through a sunny meadow
Startling rabbits and field mice
Bending low to admire the delicate
Bloom of some flower.
Swiftly, my soul travels the countryside,
Neither stream nor river impede me.
I need no bridge to forge their widths.
I race towards the horizon
Marvelling at the fat white clouds
In a reluctantly blue sky
I envy the flight of a bird.
And, should later
The skies darken and the rain kiss my skin
My soul shall once again know its restraints
And take refuge behind the misty glass
And rain swept metal that speeds my imagination
Through fair English country lanes.
