Marshmallows

The first time you made me cocoa
you had those tiny marshmallows.
The little white parcels of sweetness
which melt swiftly into layers
of warm comfort, as I do
when I hold you.
Since that day we’ve captured moments:
little things, stolen kisses, hours
taken forcibly from circumstance,
our occasionally benevolent mistress.
Each moment with you is a marshmallow
dropped into the hot, steaming mug
of our journey together, and it
overflows, fills to bursting, melts
and fills again
a sweetness in my heart and mind
but also one we can drink
together
before we close our eyes.

I like it. Good use of metaphor and so romantic.
