Chapter 1: Millipedes and Maggots
Woke up in a fluorescent lighted storage room with a bunch of boxes and this notebook. I can't remember who I am or where I came from. The boxes contain packs of food and water. Tired. Falling back to sleep.
I woke up again and ate out of one of the food packets. Everything in here has Russian writing on--the food supplies, that is. There is a computer terminal by the door and it seems to have about ten different symbols that it cycle through in black, red, blue, green, yellow, pink, orange, brown, grey, and purple. The symbols also appear to go from up to down instead of from left to right. I tried playing around with the terminal some but all that it did was bring up pictures of food with descriptions written in these symbols. Couldn't figure out how to get the door open.
Just stay calm and think. That's all you can do. There has to be a good explanation for the memory loss and freaking out about it isn't going to do any good. The room is ten meters wide in a perfect square and three meters tall. The wall to the left of the door has some kind of graffiti in red that looks like some kind of gang symbol but I can't make anything out other than that. I don't even know my name. I can't believe this. Well, at least there's food here.
After a really long nap I started playing with the computer terminal again and managed to get the door open. The next room looks like some kind of buffet-style kitchen and restaurant but no one is in there and the light is even more dim there than in here. I'm going to pick up a metal pipe and go in. Cautious.
Glad I'm back in here. I ventured out into the cafeteria and came across some really bad smells. There were about twenty--well, 15-20 bodies on the floor and they had these watermelon-sized trilobite/millipedes crawling on them and there were these odd-looking maggot-like creatures the size of cucumbers crawling inside of the bodies. God, what happened here? I have to come up with a plan--either wait here forever until this food runs out or venture out into Lord knows what. Well, maybe if I stay here I can rest up and regain my strength before trying anything crazy. Who knows? Maybe the bugs will get tired of those corpses and move on as well. Those were some pretty big bugs.
I counted up the food and water supplies in here and it looks like enough to sustain me for at least a month or two.
Got fully rested and a little bored. Plus, tired of smelling my excrement over in the corner opposite the door. So I got out, took one of the cooking knives I found in the kitchen, and did some exploring. Past the cafeteria was a long corridor. The bugs were gone from earlier and now there is only black ooze and red blood stains where the corpses once were. Across the corridor from the cafeteria I saw a door that was partially opened. To the right of the caf the hallway went for 100 meters until abruptly dead-ending and to the left it went 50 meters until what appeared to be some kind of exit. Everything outside of the storage room is half-lit. Someone or something seems to have smashed up this place pretty bad and half the lights missing. No windows anywhere. Can't tell if this place is above ground or not. Found a few guns in the hallway that were covered in black ooze. Parts of armored body suits and red stains were nearby as well. I went back into the kitchen and put on some gloves and picked up the guns in a few trips back to the storage room. They were fairly big guns. Looked like one had some kind of gas tank and laser emitter--multifunction flame thrower I suppose. Another was some kind of machine gun. The third was some kind of small hand gun. Didn't go any further than right outside of the Caf where I found the guns. God, I hope I won't have to use those things.
After sleep and breakfast--I think that was breakfast. Can't tell the time here. It just seems like one long semi-fluorescent nightmare. Anyway, after breakfast I ventured out with my newly cleaned weapons (tried the best I could) and headed to what looked like the exit. When I got there I found a room about ten meters by ten meters that looked like some kind of waiting room, but full of black ooze all over the floor and walls. And there were about twenty of those millipede things but they were bigger, between one and two meters long crawling all over the place. I thought about torching them out but thought better of it and hurried past them to the other side of the room where the doorway was--it was already open. On the other side there was a platform that extended out over a dark abyss to some kind of hovercraft. It was linked end-to-end about fifteen cars, some kind of train I suppose? And there were all these generators on the upper and lower sides of them (eight per car) and some looked a little damaged and were sparking out electrical discharges. Beyond the train about 200 meters were other similar openings that linked to other similar floating trains. I must have seen about four in all. They were the only things that provided light to what must be an incredibly large tunnel. I could smell a little ozone from the electrical discharge and the air was humid and sticky, but not particularly warm or cold. Well, maybe a little warm.
I made it into the hover-train and luckily no one or thing was in there. It may take some time, though, to get it back to operational because it appears to be somewhat damaged. Made a few trips back and forth from the supply room in order to stock up on food. The train is empty, with blood stains here and there similar to what I saw in the corridor. Many of the electrical outlets are ripped open and much of the furniture appears to be ripped up a bit. There is also glass on the floor here and there from the occasional overhead light panel--well, at least where the panel used to be. I made my way to the front of the train and set one of the weapons to low output in order to make an effective but clean cut through the door. The control room was empty but fully intact. I looked at the screen and the same damn symbols were still there. I guess this is what Hell is like, a bunch of freakish insects scurrying around a dark dungeon and a bunch of unintelligible writing--none of it in English. Train computer seems to be doing some kind of restart procedure. Well, a bunch of lights on the control panel are blinking for some reason.
Some cartoonish head popped up on the screen by the keyboard and it started talking some strange language. Does NOT sound like Russian. Uggh, what is this, some kind of show or game or something.
Accessed the train's AI. Something really bad happened here but no time to write it all down. Doing some kind of diagnostic and repair protocol with the train's nanobots. Not sure how long it will take. Everything else got killed here--humans, androids, whatever. No contact with outside of this tunnel and everyone (if there is anyone left) is locked in for some kind of quarantine. From what I've gathered so far this is some kind of mining colony but still I don't know why I'm here. That's all for now.
