No unicorns, no pearly gates; just fast food dives and meager wage. No magic realms, real life abounds. Garbage cans and bowling alleys, part time jobs and trailer parks.
Where's my stone clad sword? My ruby slippers? Where are the transformations, the transfigurations, the anthropomorphizations? How can an apple be only an apple?
Leaves are brown and grass is faded. Shopping carts bang rusted cars and even princes wear tarnished armor. Midsummer's Eve is long past now and no mystic trees glow late into the night.

Interesting contrasts
Interesting contrasts between fact and escapism.
Check the shopping cart - in the UK they may still have a pound coin stuck in them.

Well done Errol, I echo
Well done Errol,
I echo Leander42 regarding the juxtaposition of fantasy and reality. In the writing itself there is also a good contrast of sentence construction and this enlivens the piece and adds interest (third paragraph is the best example of this). Just a couple of points if I may?
The "pearly gates" image is a little at odds with the piece in terms of the genre that you are trying to evoke/invoke.
"Leave" should read "Leaves" (first line, last paragraph).
"meager" should be "meagre".
Please remember this is only my personal, subjective opinion.
Scratch.
