Pesky Poker

While sitting at the table with a fat cigar in hand,
our favourite fluffy bunny flashed his bits that weren’t tanned.
His shiny brand new Polaroids helped mask his big bright eyes
as he analysed the suckers with their feeble bluffs and lies.
He knew he had to play it cool while studying their faces,
even if the dealer dished him out a pair of aces.
So when that fateful moment came he never twitched a whisker,
and when he raised a thousand chips the scene was quite a picture.
For playing after Pesky was a pro called Blighters Rock,
whose living came from playing Texas Hold-em round the clock.
While sitting at the table Blighters never counted chips,
or fidgeted with fingernails or bit his drying lips.
They say there’s something mystical about those greatest players
who know exactly when to fold and don’t rely on prayers.
Rock sat with Ace and King of Spades; a hand of solid gold,
but his sixth sense alerted him and told him just to fold.
OTT sat hopefully with King and Queen of Hearts;
a hand that looked so pretty but could tear a stack apart.
She pondered for a moment like a cat who’d found a fiddle,
but common sense took over and she mucked them in the middle.
Sitting on the Button was a Yank called Hudsonmoon
who counted out a pile of chips while whistling a tune.
Old Man River carried notes across the table
setting up the scene for us to carry on this fable.
None of the other hopefuls were prepared to see the flop
leaving Hudsonmoon and Pesky to compete the growing pot.
The flop seemed unconnected and Pesky scratched his chin,
which Hudson noticed right away and knew then he could win.
Showing brave initiative Hudson raised the stakes,
Pesky came right back at him then made the same mistake.
Now Hudson got excited and an All-in move was made,
and fell into the bluffer trap our fluffy friend had laid.
Pesky called him right away and waited for the turn,
but when he saw that fourth card laid his eyes began to burn.
Nothing special on its own, the card was just an eight,
but with the rest already out there might just be a straight.
The river was delivered in a scene sent down from heaven,
as the dealer dealt a fateful blow and showed the players a seven.
The strongest hand for both these studs who gave it their best shot,
was the straight in the community which meant they’d split the pot.
This is where the fun began though we hope you enjoyed the ramble,
and understand how low they'll go just to have a gamble.
For Hudsonmoon and Pesky didn’t want a share of pity,
they had came this far expectant and were greedy for the kitty.
A referee was summoned and a coin was duly tossed,
but as this was done in private no-one knows who finally lost.
