Little Flower

Little flower
so small and delicate
weak and helpless
naturally fresh and the paradigm of beauty.
You smell of warm summer days
and feel like velvet upon the skin.
Little flower
be careful when your petals flutter in the wind.
It will tell you stories of all the other little flowers that
have danced in its wake,
who were remarkable for their grace and elegance
much like yourself.
Little flower
much like your ancestors in the prime of your bloom
you will be plucked from your comfort,
torn from your roots.
Your precious and otherwise unnoticed existence
will be permanently terminated
to satisfy the selfish aspirations of a hopeful boy.
Little flower
beware her soft painted fingers
for if you are not prudent
she will surely strip you of your dignity.
She is but jealous of your grace and innocence
and unsure of her own
in his eyes.
Little flower
you are no prize to be gifted lightly as a token of
some feeble, self-proclaimed love.
Defend your honor and purity against the corruption
of human lust.
Protect your tiny beating heart
with every fiber of your living form.
Thrive on your own happiness
and the blazing rays of the sun
because the best form of rejuvenation
comes untainted by human hands and hearts.
