A Frenzy of Envy (IP)

I envied one who drew a bow
and made exquisite music flow;
I envied one who cooked with skill:
my efforts so insipid still;
I envied one who got away
with crime, deceit for many a day;
I envied one whose face and charm
brought fame intrusive, hate and harm;
I envied one whose wit was prized,
his loneliness so well disguised;
I envied one who had such joy –
my envy seemed to joy destroy;
what I could do was oh, so small,
– why bother doing it at all?
but as I bent to tedious duty,
with neither wit, or skill, or beauty,
I knew rewards, stars in the grey,
and some now envy me, they say!

This is a brilliant take on the I.P., Rhiannon. We take our rewards where we find them, I guess;-)
