Momma Knows Her Boy

The way she dressed him
like a little boy, with short
pants and a tam way back
then, the way she fed him
with porridge and toast
now it’s much different –
sugars and lots of fat
the way she tucked him
into bed with a kiss, then
seeing him off to school next day.
The way she looked at him
love in her eyes and heart
strong even though her hospital
bed was not so soft
and when she lay down her
head the very last time he cried.
