It is hard to see beauty
without you around
but, this morning,
I humped my heart
across acre after acre
of ‘this green,
and pleasant land’ –
my rucksack laden
with all the memories
I could carry. Then
a sudden scuttling
of dusk reminded me
I should be heading home...
the evening air – replete,
obese with birdsong,
and the yellow
and purple scent
of oxeye daisies,
blue-eyed grass,
and rubescent
rose-rugosa.
Everywhere –
you are...
The distant hills –
their seven shades
of purple, playing
a silky-rich,
liquid-chocolate
tune on a sax.
I want you
back, whilst
I can still remember
what it felt like
to hold you, and
to hear you whispering
what used to be
my name.

This was so calming and medatative to read Tina.
I loved the idea of the rucksack laden with all
the memories you could carry.
It was almost as if you were walking in your
imagination and seeing the beauty around you, which
I often think is better than reality itself.
I could see every detail of the second stanza, too
the scuttling of dusk, to the evening air - replete,
obese with bird song, too the purple scent of
oxeye daisies,
blue-eyed grass,
and rubescent
rose-rugosa.
What a beautiful way to spend Summer Solstice.
Jenny.

- love these lines, Tina. 'obese with birdsong' - what an original image! Those last lines are just a stunning finish. Well done!

Much enjoyed.

It's obese with the sound of my baby crying! And I'm trying to get some writing done.
Wouldn't change it for the world.
