‘I love you.’

But we’ve only just begun. How can you say that?

‘I love you.’

Don’t talk words of love or burn the flesh of my back with your gentle fingertips. Don’t stroke me so soft and make my head so dizzy that your words make no sense and your touch is my ecstasy.

‘I love you.’

But I can’t trust in your love. It scares me. It’s too raw, too strong. Dilute the warmth in your eyes and the intensity of your touch. Care for me a little, but don’t love me. Please don’t love me. I don’t know what to do with your love.

‘I love you.’

You do, I can see it. I finally believe you and I love you too. I need you. I want you. I trust you. I can’t contain all this love for you in one body. I’ve given myself to you totally and I believe in your words of love. You make me smile, I’m so happy. ‘I love you too’

‘Fuck off, I’ve met someone else.’

Seriously wrong-footed!What a condensed view of human relations. love as a power game, the sense (perhaps a male trophy-hunting sense but this poem doesn't make gender clear) of once love is returned it's time to move on.

Thanks Blackie, I don't do mush, will have a shot at pretty much anything, but romance ... it leaves me cold. So I decided to try and write something gooshy just to show myself that I can .... and it was all going so well until that last line!

Oh Sooz, Great one this. Really made me chuckle. I love it when one is led up one way only to end up somewhere else. I like writing stuff like that too. Really enjoyed it. Not getting into your other stories just waiting for when you start again on the two I have been reading. MOya
