Whenever I think of you
and the way we were,
I find him there too
pushing you aside
forcing me to remember
all the other unfinished
business -
random memories,
initials engraved on a tree
in Oban
a rowing boat on Grasmere Lake
a smoke-filled car drive to
it-didn't-matter-where
Neil Diamond, Roberta Flack
and all the love songs
that remind me of you,
and him
You have become inseparable,
one dead, the other dying
no endings or goodbyes,
only beginnings
and squared circles
