The Sneak of the Milk

Don't shake, that precious inch
All soft and thick and creamy, just sitting there
Just squeeze a thumb down, by mistake!
Then pull the top back, and take a lick..
The cream of the milk, not free for the taking,
But sneaked
Was surely a sin, not a treat?
But all the more enjoyed, because of the sneak
For without the cream, the milk wasn't milk
And how would the tea taste without it?
Mummy, her head she just shook
And lifted the bottle to take a look,
Then shook
went the bottle, her thumb on the top
And mixed it together
And gone was the cream from the top of the milk
I watched it go..
Just knew it had ended,
but the taste,
Oh, it lingered..
And still remembered

I can still get Gold Top from my milkman, so I consider myself very lucky indeed...a bit like the cat that got the cream;-)
