I couldn't sleep tonight
for the terrific giraffe
coming in through the window
upsetting the acacia in its pot
and disturbing the elephants
huddled like statues in the dark
I woke from the prefab classroom
where diluvian rain roared
and threatened to bring the ceiling down
And maybe the rain did pour
and the wind did blow
and the cool giraffe
did bother me from the window
And maybe the rumble
of elephants in the darkness
did reach my anxious mind
where even Sarah's comforting hand
wasn't enough to save my sleep
from the knowledge
that the prefab is built on graves
and the slumber of the dead
is no less troubled than my own

Yes, I really liked this
Yes, I really liked this Parson especially the first stanza and the last two lines of the last stanza left me pondering.
I also lived in a pre-fab.
Much enjoyed

Wonder piece, Parson. I really liked 'where diluvian rain roared' - it just rolls off the tongue. I agree with Bear that this is one to come back to for another few reads, as every good poem is. The last few lines are exquisite.
