PHANTOM LIMBS

just when you think you've seen the light
then someone throws the switch
that fetching piece so glimmering
infected by a glitch
the brilliant flash i strove to catch
in essence, now, just dims
the poem i tried has ghosts inside
twas penned by phantom limbs
a summer full of somersaults
a leaping team of frogs
how easily the quick brown fox
flew over lazy dogs
the words i lumped, had wildly jumped
through lingual jungle gyms
the poem that hopped, fell down and stopped
twas penned by phantom limbs
a stunning work of eloquence
lies stunned just like an ox
although the weasel pops around
the jack stays in his box
the manic squeals of cartoon reels
no longer sacred hymns
the poem, once quaint, now surely ain't
twas penned by phantom limbs
