Can't afford welfare? No - can't afford the rich.
Redistribution of wealth is not an economic fad or outmoded political fashion, it is a necessity in any cohesive, stable and decent society.
The peace and stability we now enjoy was laid down in a past that was redistributive. We are living on our dwindling savings.
There is sufficient space and resource for all of us in this country if we could get away from the idea that there is only sufficient for one of us.
We can only truly thrive together, but to do so must throw off the class system that keeps us apart. Throw off those who preside over it. Those who themselves thrive upon a system of divide and rule.
1945 was a lost opportunity to build on a common sense of nationhood. It descended into class war driven by vested interests at both ends. The question is how to reach the goal of a cohesive, mature republic with a shared sense of purpose that takes individuals beyond yearning to climb the feudal barony.
