The Day for Making Promises (IP)

A time not for fuss,
expense, but for us;
– a time to be told
to love and to hold
in youth and when old,
and value as gold
that purpose united,
assisting, supported,
cherished and sharing,
caring, forbearing,
for hardships preparing,
with honest admissions
of faults and ommissions,
move forward together,
and arguments weather;
so, when you have heard
us each give our word,
then stay for some cake,
and a meal, – if you make
speeches, have fun,
but, as we’ve begun
our new life and marriage,
do try to encourage
us in our committment
to capture
th’adventure
to labour together
and cultivate, grow
(as we keep our vow)
that fellowship strong
for ever so long,
go on as we start,
’til death us do part.

Hi Rhiannon
Hi Rhiannon
Lovely poem, championing marraige. I was so lucky in mine - and even though I would have loved to have had my husband around longer, I can only be thankful that we got on so well. So many of my friends have not had that experience.
