There Once Was A Time......

There once was a time when men were brave
And women had pubic hair
Dirt, it was rife and people had itches
And itches were cured by benevolent witches
And time didn't tick
But ticks were abundant
People ate insects
And soap was redundant
Their daily worries just single figures
And days filled up with simple rigours
And when it got dark they just went to their beds
And relished the space inside their heads
All was in nature
And nature was magic
Death came to all
And it wasn't so tragic
Warm clothes and food
The extent of their wishes
Until they became fodder
For worms and for fishes
Life seemed so hard
Only food it was bitter
The germs weren't so bad
Bones and shells were their litter
The air was so clean
And the view wasn't bad
They surely thought nothing
Of what they never had
All that they needed was already there
Now most of us live in perpetual despair
Kidding ourselves that we need all this stuff
And then when we get it, it's never enough
I'm guilty too but I'm trying to defy it
The monster that says 'You need that so buy it!'
