Dirty little footprints

You leave dirty little footprints
Now it is winter
the snow is falling
and you can only walk
with the assistance of others
You search for your tracks
but as fast as you make them
they are hidden
We know what lies beneath, you and I
when the hands that are claws
were boxing gloves
and the shoes that are useless weights
stamped and kicked
There must have been school bound kisses
the admonition that was my diet must surely
have been peppered with praise
the words of love cannot always have sat
like stones in the mouth
I have put away my greatcoat
and my shovel
winter cannot erase, cannot exculpate
and I must not dig any deeper
for fear of where the footprints
might lead

Like the 1st stanza
Now is is winter

Reminds me bit of 'Footprints'
holy one he carries us in his
footprints, they disappear once
we stand on our own! When ready.

This is an intriguing piece
This is an intriguing piece Lav'. The one thing that I take from both these pieces that you have picked is the depth of the untold story that is so clearly there, yet it would seem still needs for some reason to remain untold. Very gripping and of course that wonderful vocabulary which from other pens might seem pretentious but from yours is simply correct and enviable. I'm sorry that I didn't see this one first time round but I am so glad that I have come to it now.
