Killing Time
By amlee

Midday impasse in the deadlock
of ankles beneath tabletops
chasing sleep in a sedentary glow
beyond winter's ravage
and frostbitten windows
How fiercely sweet to recline unfocussed
to gaze into middle distance
into your deadly hazel pools
knowing they roam me like a country
to cause civil unrest that dislodges
my best stratagems or discourse
You bite while I lap like a blue Persian
sticky flow of eggy sweetness
drip, swamp, blurring vision
so broadsheets are illegible
the pea pulse in my ankle
betraying inner lunacy
I still only as you clasp my heart
with a quiet look over our rims
as we pit eyes and minds
wrestle peppermint against latté
Love is killing Time with you
on a stone cold morn
with fire in our veins
