Margaret's Funeral Tomorrow

My invitation for tomorrow’s funeral in London came at the weekend. To be honest I would have gone anyway, invitation or not. But it’s nice to think that the family want me there. She’d been ill for some time and eventually gave her final breath last week. She was 87.
It’s obvious that there will be a large number of people there. Not all of them wishing her well. Some of them will be celebrating the fact that the old girl has finally gone.
She was a formidable woman was Margaret.
Determined, stubborn, sometimes even ruthless, but with a soft side that most people never saw.
She was a smart lady. Immaculately dressed, hair and shoes always had to be just right.
She divided us, that’s for sure. You either loved her or hated her. There was no middle ground with Margaret.
She was a fighter, no doubt about it. Always stood her corner. Took people on head first and most of the time came out on top. Once, in Brighton, she almost died. But, typical Margaret was back at work the following day.
I had to make some changes in my life during the eighties. She helped me make those decisions and I was definitely better off for her advice. Unfortunately others didn’t always benefit from her words of wisdom.
We fell out sometime in the nineties and to be honest I haven’t seen much of her since. Just the odd appearance here and there.
So, my best suit has been cleaned and pressed. My black shoes are highly polished. White shirt will be crisp and clean and I’ve forked out thirty quid for a new black tie.
If anyone would like to attend. The details are below for my Aunty Margaret’s funeral.
Margaret Edith Fletcher. 2.00pm Wanstead Cemetery, East London.
Sorry, forgot to mention the Brighton thing, she swerved her car to avoid a fox and hit a lamppost.
