Breathless for Winter to be gone

Spring is the first person who kissed you on the lips
Breathless in the playground.
Summer is all the times you were deeply in love.
And every bad ass boy I ever got involved with
Is beautiful reckless Autumn.
But Winter is the bullying lover
Who locks you into his chill embrace.
Cruelty is cold and coldness is spite -
Viciousness creates its own circle.
We find sanctuary in the comfort of cliché:
Log fires, welly boots, mulled wine, mugs of soup.
For all your romancing with snowmen,
Loving the landscape of Christmas cake,
All you can do is seek refuge from Winter
In woolly mittens and fur hats
Under blankets and duvets.
Winter closes in and stifles,
With a nature dark and impervious to flirting.
But when the cold grasp is relinquished,
You will emerge from your fleece-lined asylum.
Warmth will bathe your shrivelled skin,
The sun will seduce you
And kiss you once again,
Breathless in the playground.
