One Winter Night!

One Winter Night!
The snow it falls without a sound,
The silence all pervading.
Everything is numbed dumb,
And so quiet is the earth.
Then it speaks in muffled whisper,
as it falls gently to the ground.
Not one bird stirs, no sleep is interrupted
by the quiet stealth of softly falling snow,
As it whorls its way toward the ground,
There to lay, for how long?
No one knows…
It may be spring before it goes.
It can stay forever if in virgin state,
Unblemished white, unsounded sound,
What peace there is all around!
Can anyone hear the drift of snow?
Nature has gifted to us
This untroubled silence,
And we must not blemish
What is not ours to spoil?
So I gaze with wondrous eyes,
On lace laden boughs and trees,
As snow ornaments with patterns,
So intricate, so wondrous, so white!
Then life stirs and we hear the crisp crack
Of footsteps that will inevitably mean
That helpless snow’s virginity
Is about to be despoiled.
Then white turns grey through
F o o ts t e p s
So brutal and defiling; they desecrate
The pure whiteness of unsullied snow!

You picture the quietness of
You picture the quietness of the snow well, and I liked the idea of the lacy branches with snow ornaments very much. Rhiannon

The stillness and delicacy of
The stillness and delicacy of snow is captured so quaintly, Moya. Like looking into a misty snow globe. A real treat.

Lovely poem Moya, you express
Lovely poem Moya, you express beautifully the quiet and purity of the snow - and then the 'defilement' of the footsteps. Great stuff.

Moya - I've only just
Moya - I've only just discovered this little gem. It is beautifully written, and it made me long for some snow
Hope the meds are settling down now, and kicking in. Hubby struggles most days, thus, so do I, but today he's not doing too badly. Hang on in there. Thinking of you.

Hi again, Moya. My husband
Hi again, Moya. My husband had to come off of Stalevo, which is a combination of Levadopa and Entacapone. It turned out he was allergic to the latter, and developed severe anaemia for which he had to have several blood transfusions. Whilst he was on it though, he did notice an improvement in his symptoms, which is really a shame, because, unfortunately there is nothing to directly replace it.
Hope you have better luck with it, and as you've taken it before, chances are you can tolerate it.
On a lighter note, the best of luck with your play. You are quite some lady, Parkinsons or no and I admire you, so very much.
And by the way, I have passed on your regards, and his face lit up. Shame you couldn't see it.
Oh, and let us know how that play goes, won't you?
