There is silence tonight,
not that of the graveyard,
but that of a forest
which has lost its leaves.
Hopeless numb silence,
with sound of its own,
weightier than any speech.
Speech is frivolous here.
My tongue has lost meaning,
My ears dislike this place.
But I am strangely anchored
to the ground, like a dead tree.
The silence settles on my chest,
growing heavier till I cannot breathe.
I do not panic, I accept this fact,
I have expected it from my first minute here.
I expect nothing more or less.
I am numb and there is silence tonight.
