If she were here, she'd tell them,
you'd have never done her harm.
You'd have raised the pillow
just in time, 

eased your grip around her neck
your punch - a lighter thump.

You'd have dragged her out 
before you drowned her,
cut the rope with which you bound her,
ripped the tape with which you gagged her,
dropped the rock before you stoned her,
released the noose before you hanged her

and sheathed the knife; 
unburied her.

And she would add
that in your way, 
you loved her...

if only she were here.

And she might say 'he's alright when he's sober'. Or he might; approx 1 in 5 victims of spouse abuse is a man. Good poem to illustrate an issue.

She might say that, Elsie. 'She' might have said a lot of things, if only she were still here because all the afore mentioned things wouldn't have happened, so he might have loved her, but she isn't, so he didn't - if that makes sense. True that men are also victims of domestic violence, but a different matter for the women living in a world where wives are easily disposable and may be punished in order to get rid of them.

Another very deep and meaningful poem, very well done.

I sort of see it as a mother, who might have saved her daughter from her husband - but had somewhat divided loyalties, and had to put the husband's case forward.
