Water Break-its-neck.

Carpark in the trees –
viewing through the screen of trunks
sunshine bands across the slope,
dark long shadows,
afternoon autumnal light
hillside forest –
fading larches border
evergreens,
sound of breeze in the trees
– no it’s the stream
rushing down below.
Damp, dark, dingle cleft
dripping glistening mossy branches
rushing clear stream,
and at the far dead end
white bridal train
rushing, dropping
down the rocky strata
precipitous staircase:
'Water Break-its-neck'.
Up the path through the woods
inceasing sunshine penetration
glimpses of bare bright hill tops
with their sheep,
up and along (where are we?
good to have GPS
can we really do this circle?
step it out –
now we’ve lost the footpath,
this is a forest track
let’s see if we can get to Davy Morgan’s dingle by 3.30,
then it should be downhill to the car)
bright late afternoon light,
glimpses of mid-Wales’ waves of hills,
bright russet dying bracken
and blue sky.

Wonderful description, as I
Wonderful description, as I expect from your writing, Rhiannon, but I loved the building excitement and sense of urgency near the end. Wish I was there. Lovely photo - is that going in the calendar ?

Congrats on the cherry :-)
... This made me think of the book "Hinds Feet on High Places" by Hannah Hurnard. Have you read it? I think you'd love it :-) Have a great weekend $

Hi Rhiannon
Hi Rhiannon
More beautiful descriptions of your lovely part of Wales. You are so lucky. Is there a stroy about how it got its name?

Hello Rhiannon,
Hello Rhiannon,
This is a lovely walk through the forest and I enjoyed seeing it through your poetic eye. I particularly liked this,
'white bridal train
rushing, dropping
down the rocky strata
precipitous staircase:
'Water Break-its-neck'.
Autumn is probably my favourite season
