SEASONED SAILORS

we ride the peaks and valleys
of the life that God has brought
though low points are unpleasant
there's a lesson to be taught
.
you can't be filled with wonder
if you've never tasted fear
you're strengthened when you're drowning
in an oceanful of tears
.
denied the tidal fury
you can't feel the hands that soothe
there won't be seasoned sailors
in a world where seas are smooth
.
on crests, there's no residing
we just visit when we may
when tides of fortune sink us
we shall vow to rise someday
.
we're better when we're battered
through the briny depths, we'll roam
we may encounter riptides
but they'll never be our home
.
no peace in the Pacific
quite the opposite's instilled
yet oceans, in their umbrage
will give birth to seamen, skilled

You've woven so much into this, Alvin.
I was reminded of being told we should be busy as on a working ship not lying down on a luxury cruise for life. The rough spots can push us to need for help and support, especially from God, the easy places if they go on too long make us complacent and proud. Rhiannon
