Trick or Treat?

Woke up this morning in a strange bed,
I noticed that the time was six o’clock;
the room I was in had silken wallpaper
with the design of a sashaying peacock.
That bird's plumage was green and blue,
just like the kimono that was on a chair.
Then I discovered that next to me
lay a gorgeous girl with raven hair.
She stirred from her sleep and stretched;
she gave me a smile and a kiss on the lips.
I suspected that she was an enchantress,
one that indulged in insidious cantrips.
I was perplexed and in a state of shock;
I asked her bluntly, “What is all this?
Is it your custom to entertain strangers
and seduce them with a lingering kiss”?
She answered sweetly, nibbling my ear,
“ Did you forget what happened, my dear?
It was only yesterday that we tied the knot.
We are duly married, that’s why we’re here”.
Here was the nuptial suite of the Carlton
where she refreshed my defective memory
by replicating last night’s consummation
without resorting to charms or gramarye.
