THE IDES OF MARCH

Woke up this morning
Feeling cold
Feeling old
Older than yesterday
Anyway.
Without warning
I see my husband hold
A ring of white gold!
For my Birthday.
Today.
While I’m still mourning
Being young(ish) no more
Knock at the door
Flowers on the way –
Mother’s Day!
I’m still yawning
(Being one plus sixty-four) –
But the kids I adore
Have come to play.
What more to say?
Happy day!
