I was hoping
for a spot
on the bench
It's my park,
too,
you know
All these
young
and their
babes
Gentrification
they call it
Such a big
word
for bench
hogs
I used to meet
Peg here
not so
long ago
Cardboard wine
is what
she'd bring
I'd laugh
and threaten
to call the
wine police
Then I'd
read aloud
from the
book
Poetry
God awful
stuff
I wrote it
in my
youth
when it seemed
to mean
something
It seemed to
please her
Then I'd
walk Peg
home and say
goodnight
When she died,
the young ones
took over
her flat
But I'm not
giving up
the park
just yet
It's still
my park,
too,
you know
