Did You...

Did you take my hand and lead
us to the edge of water,
where our damp companions leapt
cavorting on the firm and level sand?
Did their sinking feet skid ragged trails
of joy that spoilt the shiny surface
from the tide's slow drift
into the distance, gifting treasures
in the form of shells and gleaming gems?
And were we there - sea breeze in hair,
brief brush of lips -
a salty kiss to curve of neck,
and did I shiver from the chill,
or from the thrill of nearness,
even with such distance of reality
between us, or just for those
exquisite moments,
were we really there?
Let's not answer now, but savour
dreamt of memories
while they linger sweet deliverance
from multitudes of troubles
in a life of care.

Aye, good memories can help
Aye, good memories can help us through the roughest times. Great images. I can see the long hair whipping in the wind as the tide seeps in between the toes.
enjoyed.

A dream like mix of memories
A dream like mix of memories and imaginings and hopes to ease the stress? (did you mean 'dreams of memories' rather than 'dreamt of memories' in the last stanza?)
gifting treasures in the form of shells and gleaming gems –- a lovely phrase and the description of the smooth sand left by the receding tide being spoilt by footprints like what happens to freshly fallen snow.

Hi Bee,
Hi Bee,
I'm all for treasured memories. It's nice to reminisce of times past, remembering those moments when life was so easy going.
Your poem brought to mind my own unforgettable recollections.
Thank you for sharing.
