November Arboretum

The sun had been shining,
but drizzle set in,
dressed for the weather
we ambled in:
fresh air and soothing
pillars, and walls
– each tree so varied,
and another leaf falls –
murky and dark,
a splash of blood-red,
a pattern of peach …
… yellow stars outspread
on a background screen
of conifers’ drab
sombre and shadowy evergreen,
the leaky roof drips
to the carpeted way
– a collage of colours
and shapes in decay.
In a dip by some bushes,
three badger cubs, carved,
play with their mother,
and rummage for grubs.

I loved this, and it really
I loved this, and it really is suited to the rhyme. Also liked to visualize the Badgers playing and grubbing no matter the season, being carved. Lovely scene.

I love this time of year
I love this time of year Rhiannon, your poem describes the colours beautifully and I loved the idea of the badgers...such hard creatures to come across.
Congrats on the well deserved cherries.
Jenny.
