The Lamplighter!

The Lamplighter!
Could it have been you the other night
Who woke me from my troubled sleep
And set me thinking once again
By turning on your bedside light!
I tried to find a logical explanation
For something that seemed so strange.
Was it you trying to comfort me?
Or is it silly to have such an expectation
I would like to think that you cared enough
To come to me in my hour of need.
I have shed so many tears for you
So were you saying enough is enough?
What happened that night needs to be told,
Before anyone can give an answer.
It's a mystery, but there is no mistake.
Although my judgement is on hold.
It was before this year's party night,
I was in bed and soundly sleeping,
When something strange awakened me;
The room was filled with shining light!
Yes, your bedside light was turned full on
And I could find no rational explanation.
That level of brightness needs three touches,
And know that for sure, so I can't be wrong.
Since you left after the party last year,
I have had to learn to live without you.
But I'm still lonely for your dear face,
And now the dreaded anniversary is here.
So, in hope, I ask again, was it you that lit the light?
If so, then you're still here...just out of sight!

I really felt the depth of sadness this, Moya. How strange, the light! I hope you allow yourself to find comfort in the posibility your explanation is right. Lovely poem. Liked the rhymes.
Thinking of you.

I am also hoping for "signs"
When I wake up in bed I expect there to be husband next to me. Then I wake up a bit more and realize it is the dog tucked into my back.
