A flame forgot to flutter
and a heap of yellow lay disheveled,
sparkling eyes no longer shine and you,
who closed the lids upon my joy, now wilt
within my trembling hands.
I somehow thought you'd stay a while,
but the dearest things are there to make us better
for their gift of kindness. Though tears may blind,
you, who took your final flight landed
where you'll stay - forever in my heart.
Good night, sweetheart, and thank you.

I can't personally get emotional over pets, but I do like the way you've written this and all the little metaphoric and descriptive phrases, and its succinctness. Rhiannnon

Such tender words filled with
Such tender words filled with saddness when we loose a living creature that brings us so much joy.
I'm so sorry for the loss Bee. May the angels watch over this beautiful bird.

I'm so sad for you, Bee.
I'm so sad for you, Bee.
It reminded me of the time a lady was driving by my house in her car, and a pheasant aimed itself at the car's windscreen. The poor woman was distraught, and I had to go out and comfort her before she could stop shaking and continue her journey. She couldn't stop saying how sorry she was that she, as she saw it, had taken a life. That's it I guess; a life is a life, whether it be a human life, or that of any other creature under the sun, and the more we have bonded with that life, the greater our loss.
