Springwatch!

Clutch of eggs crack open, hatch,
parents rush and dash to catch
insects, spiders, bugs for food
for their gaping, growing brood.
Little nestlings getting fatter:
feathered wings soon all a-flutter,
soon they’re perching on the edge,
ready to let go and fledge.
Fledglings, venture out, and fly,
wave your wings to say, ‘Goodbye’,
no more waiting to be fed –
start to feed yourselves instead!

It's what I'm always telling
It's what I'm always telling my fledglings! Enjoyed this, Rhiannon - made me think of watching the nest in one of the trees in my garden.

I know how you feel Airyfairy
I know how you feel Airyfairy, they fledge, come back, raid the cupboards, refledge...etc. The difference between birds and humans. Sweet piece Rhiannon.

A sweet and apt
A sweet and apt interpretation the I.P., Rhiannon.
When I saw the prompt I thought that it was inspired by the recent EU referendum result and, being the cynic that I am, jumped to the conclusion that many would develop that theme.
I am glad that I was proved wrong.

Hi Rhiannon
Hi Rhiannon
Lovely little poem, and reminder of our bird friends. I have watched birds nesting just outside my window, but think they must have fledged while I was gone.

Hi Rhiannon,
Hi Rhiannon,
you've written about one of my favourite creatures, birds are everywhere in our garden and it always gives me pleasure to watch them feeding their young.
I really enjoyed reading this poem.
Jenny.
