Doggerel from a Lunatic

I looked away from the camera
hidden in the phone,
I raised my hand to CCTV
walking home alone.
It was the moon
that made me do it,
and the rain
washed me away.
I watched the bluebirds flying
towards another day,
I heard the mermaids ringing
taking selfies on the bay.
It was the moon
that made me do it
and the sunstroke
yesterday.
A woman looked me in the eye
I looked her in the nose,
she whispered in my inner ear
‘you can wear my clothes’.
It was the moon
that made me do it
and she helped
me run away.
My bed is under starlight
I count them all like sheep,
but while the owls are hooting
I’ll never get to sleep.
