We Splashed

 

in the puddles, little pools

threatening to catch mother’s attention

when we gathered home and

left splotches of mud

mash on shiny floors meant

for clean socks and kneeling low

to play checkers.

 

But then, it was okay

with laughter and “Look at you!”

ringing in our ears as we

continued with our laughter

and jostling to be first to reach

momma’s surrounding arms

and receive a kiss from her loving ways.

You always leave such encouraging remarks, and I thank you for that. We just underwent a heavy downpour, almost 40 mm in an hour. Phew. Just three days ago, no one was allowed to enter the woods due to dryness
