Once

I once filled my room with chlorine gas as an experiment.
Very Green. Very Chokey.
I used to lie on the landing beneath the skylight, my duvet folded over me with just my head sticking out, and pretend to be a scallop.
This phase lasted a year or two. Saturdays mainly.
I blew-up a tree once.
The farm over the hill called as they'd seen the fireball.
And then once, in the holidays,
My brother and I built an island.
It washed away with the tide,
As did childhood.
