Peacekeeping
By Philip Sidney
- 4040 reads
Electric yellow buzzes
louder than cicadas
screaming in pines
run faster than breath
to move this moment
into something
to be smiled over
sweet tea shaking
in cupped hands
Mother/Father/Sister/Brother
I will carry your disdain
to keep you a little longer
fear is magical
it melts time to expose
the horror beneath
bare feet slide over smooth floors
rest a head against the cool wall
beside the moth who sees
death is close
and something else
that has no name but shrieks destruction
flesh binds too tightly
to let you slip into minds
and quell the tempest
smell the staleness of your skin
leaking liquid from old wounds
hair thick with pungency
but if no one else will help
you must.

Has a torturous undercurrent and reminded me of Catholic last rites.I think the tercet form works remarkably well, I feel inspired to try it.

Sounds like a lot of carried
Sounds like a lot of carried emotional family traits, or memories, or memories affecting reactions... regardless, an intense moment, tight spare and clinical, dusted with the images you do so well 'beside the moth who sees'... Strong.work that had me re-reading, seems to come so naturally

I have re-read this a couple of times and no doubt will re-read at least a couple more. I find it intriguing and I love the structure. Really good.
