To
lead without greed,
and heed the need
of those you lead,
clear headed,
kind-hearted;
carefully listen,
and weigh
what you hear,
what you say
thoughtful and honest;
pressures will
press, stress, sway:
don’t give way
when flattered or battered,
slapped and trapped –
don’t trip, or slip
though by malice amazed,
by slander unfazed;
not puffed with ambition
for a prized, praised position,
unwilling to shirk
the rigours of work
to be of real service
and guide, represent
with little acknowledgement,
responsible for much,
accountable (for such
that you do, or don’t do)
to the whole population
who appoint by selection, election
each new politician,
accountable also to God
– and the Queen:
Who dare apply?
[IP:make them political …something that you think can make a difference]

Good response to the IP. I am not sure, Rhiannon if any PM can make a big difference as they are all 'part of the machine' i.e. the voting public, their own party, Parliament, the world economy etc but it is as well to be optimistic.

Hi Rhiannon
Hi Rhiannon
Good poem, and certainly something that a polititian should aspire to. I had good help from my local councillor over my badger problem, which seems now to have gone away - and also got a letter from my MP when our senior citizens group write to him asking him to save our local mail sorting office.

It doesn't sound like a job
It doesn't sound like a job for a human being. Interesting points of view here. The perfect candidates weaken over time and become warped, after all there's not much time for 'centering down'.
