The Wye in winter cold and clear
A frosty stillness fills the air
Only the river is gliding onwards
Dead leaves of autumn gales as
Eddies catch them trapped
Trout like spotted thrushes breast
Glide slowly in the stream
Old oak roots clasp the river bank
Holding its post crazily angled over
The wood behind reveals itself
In all its January splendour
Of brambles, tussock grass and moss
All covered in a powdery embrace
Buds frost bound waiting, waiting
For the sap to rise to blossom forth
To live again in springs display

Each part of the Wye seems
Each part of the Wye seems very special. I like your drawing attention to the little things that catch the eye in winter, and, the 'waiting buds'. I've written a number of pieces (posted in my 'Countryside Explorations' collection) about our rambles at different parts of the Wye not too distant from us, including recently a visit to Builth.
