I believe
I saw your face
only the other day
maybe Easter Sunday -
just before waking
I opened my eyes
and there you were
at the foot of my bed
watching me
tall like your father
your hair
a bright copper halo
like mine used to be -
that's how I knew it was you
Mother, you said,
and I stretched out my hand -
but in that moment
you were gone
A glimpse,
a taste of you
that's all
then I slept again,
more peaceful now
having seen your face

Well I'm very glad you
Well I'm very glad you resurrected this one FB because I don't think I read it when it was first posted - so thank you, and seashore, this is beautiful because it's spare and simple and has as much between the lines as within.

What a beautiful dream
What a beautiful dream Coral! As a child I sometimes I saw someone at the foot of my bed too. He was huge and dark and evil and wielded a great axe. I was very scared of him. It was when I started to realise the finality of death and as inevitible and how vulnerable we really are. I had bad nightmares I would call my mother in the night for a glass of water and I told of the nightmare she listened and would leave a light on for me too. I found that bedtime prayers help a lot.
But your dream was wonderful! Reassuring and comforting! Tom
