The sun is low and spurns
an evening threatening rain
when sunny was today’s habit.
A wind undermines night
as clouds roil in anticipation
of a natural ritual .
Trees swaying to music
sweeping the land as wildness
roams – deer are shadows
inviting wilderness with sounds
that come to pass with bells
tinkling from autumn’s Poplar
better known as Trembling Aspen
a more descriptive recognition
to nature’s call where paths
criss-cross these millennia
of growth -- from rocky ridges
to valleys below where great
swells of ocean caress the land.
