and sway evokes
other journeys home
 
piercing howl of
flange on rail
pains my ears
 
like football crowds
cheering hopeless dreams
through meat-pie afternoons
in floodlit rain
 
cañas and chopitos
take their place
beside the artifacts
of other epochs
 
half forgotten lives
lived in carriages
like these

I really like this poem: ‘reckless bump’ ... ‘piercing howl’ ... ‘floodlit rain’ ... ‘other epochs’ ... ‘half forgotten lives’ - evocative words and vivid images. Lovely!    

PS I hope the maths questions get no harder.

From meat-pie afternoons to cañas in the sun. I’ve lived both and miss both equally. This poem brings that back.

That's an interesting summary of this life! – yearning (patiently? greedily?), and 'hiraeth' (Welsh word for longing for things/places/people that have been known and enjoyed). Rhiannon

Hello Parson,

Devlin is a very sweet natured and affectionate dog.  I've started training him now but we can only do it in short bursts.

Oh, and by the way, as I suggested this IP  I thought my next suggestion could be the maths question.  Something along the lines of what is the square root of oh, I don't know. ...no, perhaps not.  Maths was never my strong point.
