Spring Yellows

Even when the day is dark
primroses clump on the bank, softly smile,
and deep in the wood by the muddy stream
marsh marigolds glow a deep butter gleam,
and when the sun shines
a celandine carpet flings open wide
its sparkling stars of gold.

I love the celendine bit, and
I love the celendine bit, and how you have "open wide" There is something so generous about it, isn't there? For humans gold is something to hoard in the dark, and nature just gives it freely. "flings" is exactly it. And primroses ARE gentle and soft in comparison. It's strange how everything is yellow, then in August September everything is purple?

There was something quite spiritual about your poem Rhiannon. I think the happy colours of nature put a smile on the faces of even the gloomiest of days, as does your poem which was a pleasure to read.

Lovely flowers and lovely poem.
Lovely flowers and lovely poem. Today I saw some primroses. Was I walking in the countryside? No, I was on a train and I noticed these flowers nestling in the grass next to the railway track: ‘primroses clump on the bank, softly smile’. Perfect!
