THIRTEEN DAYS - ASCOT - SHERGAR CUP - HOUSE OF COMMONS
This morning Man Servant and I prepared this diary watching the sun rise over the Avon Valley from Omar Towers with the smell of fresh brew coffee permeating the air and servant J S Bach’s ‘Prelude Number One in C Major’ playing in the background. The version we are listening to is played by the servants in the Jacques Loussier Trio on the piano, drums and double bass. No matter how many times we hear this piece we are always able to find something new in its notes and rhythms. I think Johann, if he can hear this arrangement, would fully approve of this very respectable interpretation.
The last few days have seen the cessation of the heatwave that has been hanging over Britain. Despite my breeding from beyond these shores and in warmer climates I must say I have found this recent spell of hot and humid weather rather enervating. Even with my own Servants wafting palm fronds over me, in my mind of course as we do have an electric fan but I do like to remind them of their place every so often, I have found things rather uncomfortable lately.
The other evening my Servants joined me on my divan and we settled down to watch a movie titled ‘Thirteen Days’. This was about the Cuban Missile Crisis of October 1962 and how it was handled in the White House. The servants in suits all wanted to find a peaceful way to resolve the crisis while from what I could see the servants wearing uniforms and medals wanted to use bombs and bullets to achieve the same end. I can only assume the servants in suits won the day as the world of the servants still carries on some 56 years later but from what I saw, things did get rather dangerous.
I was quite pleased with my overall results from The Goodwood Festival and even more pleased when servant Ticker delivered my winnings. I think he was rather hurt that he had lost some Dreamies to me. He did mention that there is the Shergar Cup meeting at Ascot today and that he would be willing to take any wagers I wanted to place. He is most generous and kind in offering this service but Man Servant has suggested that he may only be saying that in an effort to recover some of his losses. I think Ticker is genuinely nice and so my selections for this afternoon are from the 1525. I will be placing 2 Dreamies to win on BAJAN GOLD @ 5/2 and 1 Dreamie each way on BLUE LAUREATE @ 11/1. Once again I have to emphasise that these are entirely my own selections and Man Servant had absolutely nothing to do with them.
The other morning there was an envelope arrived from the House of Commons. When I saw where it came from I thought that maybe, just maybe, it may be the long overdue or even lost announcement of my birthday honour but alas, no. It was for Man Servant from a servant called a Member of Parliament in response to an earlier letter. Man Servant is a firm believer in that if he feels strongly enough about an issue he will write to servant politicians. After all, they are servants and it is people like Lady and Man Servant who decide at elections if they keep their jobs or not.
Just a very short one today as Man Servant is very keen to have Lady Servant ride her equine as early as possible this morning. This is to follow on from a very successful and enjoyable lesson yesterday evening. The weather looks fair and so I wish them both well.
Now, I wonder when the next envelope will arrive from the House of Commons?

I hope Man Servant was
I hope Man Servant was satisfied with his response from the House of Commons. In my experience it can be a bit hit and miss!
